Recipe of the Week: Christmas Egg Nog French Toast

Seriously, I'd almost cancel the World's Best Christmas Brunch just to sit home and eat the entire casserole dish of this yummy delight on Christmas Eve.

Since my Christmas menu is already set in stone, perhaps for New Year's Eve weekend, I'll try this. If you make it before me, enjoy....then let me know how it turned out.

Christmas Egg Nog French Toast


1/4 cup melted butter or Pam cooking spray works good too
7 eggs
2 1/2 cups egg nog
2 ounces of rum (I suppose this is optional, but Christmas only comes once a it up)
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
a dash of salt
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 tablespoon orange zest
1 loaf sliced fresh bread, cut into 1 inch slices
icing sugar


Mix eggs, egg nog, rum, sugar, spices, salt, vanilla and orange zest.

Lay two slices of french bread side by side in a pre-buttered (or Pam'd) deep dish casserole pan (you should have 12 pieces total; in two levels.

Pour egg mixture over the top; cover and refrigerate overnight.

Bake at 375 for 30 minutes; checking to make sure the bottom doesn't get too dark.

Serve with butter, maple syrup or fresh fruit
