50/52: Christmas Adventure to Edmonds

Brian and I had a full day on Saturday visiting our favorite little city on the Puget Sound, Edmonds.  I missed out on Small Business Saturday a few weeks ago, but we found a few treasures in Edmonds. 

We also toured Wight's Wonderland of Christmas, which is beautiful to visit this time of year with 30 themed trees!

We ended our day at our favorite holiday lunch spot, Scott's (or as I like to call it...Scotty's) for "linner" and an afternoon cocktail!

Unfortunately, it was a very wet day...so I didn't take as many pictures as I wanted too.

50.5/52 December in Seattle Weekend Wrap Up!

Every year, Brian and I head up to the north end of Seattle to a little town called Edmonds, WA.  Last Saturday we tasted wine and cheese at Arista, shopped at small local retailers and soaked in some holiday cheer in this cute little town.

Before heading up to Edmonds, we stopped off at Wight's Home and Garden to pick out a new tree topper.  Wight's is one of the northwest's premier home and garden stores (very much like our Molbak's adventure a few weeks ago).

Their store is decorate with about 15 themed Christmas trees....and it's hard to get out of there without a few treasures!

 I love a man who knows how to shop!

After lunch at Scott's, we headed home to put the topper on our tree!

Now only 3 more sleeps until Christmas vacation!!

West Seattle Weekend Wrap Up: Holiday Cheer!

This past weekend was my last weekend in West Seattle until the evening of the 22nd (and then it's 9 glorious days).  It seems that every year I make a long list of Christmas related activities and then hope that we can fit them all in before the clock strikes midnight on Christmas Eve.  This past weekend, we crossed a few fun items off our lists.

Saturday was non-stop and consisted of a pedicure, a haircut, shopping, wine tasting, lunch at one of our favorite north end bars, wrapping presents, watching White Christmas and trying to keep Sammy off of the Christmas village.

Looks like everything was successful, but one!

West Seattle Weekend Wrap Up: Decorating West Seattle and a Trip to Edmonds

We had a busy Saturday!

We first unleashed the Christmas closet and decorated the entire house, minus the tree which we will get next weekend!

Then it was off to Edmonds.  Every year, Brian and I try to get up there at least once during the holiday season.

It's a cute little town, situated on the Puget Sound with an independent bookstore, a cheese monger, pubs, coffee shops and a wine store.  It's the perfect place to wander and explore, especially around Christmas.

One of our first stops is always the Edmonds Bookshop.  This year they are celebrating their 40th year!  

No trip to Edmonds would be complete without a stop in to see the local cheesemonger.  The Resident Cheesemonger's Table moved locations recently.  The shop is bigger, serves hot/cold sandwiches, soups, etc. and is also closer to the wine shop (directly across the street from the old Tully's location).  

We had a small cup of yummy smokey tomato bisque, just perfect to warm our bellies on a cold, wet day.

After window shopping, picking up some chocolate at Nama's Candy Store, it was time for a wine tasting at Arista Wine Cellars.  Saturday's tastings were from Nine Hats Wines in Walla Walla, WA.

What a fun day!


Visit Edmonds...you will love it!

On our way home, I finally caught a glimpse of the Space Needle all decked out in holiday lights!

But the best lights of all are on our own home.  It looks like a little Christmas Cottage!

Edmonds

In celebration of our anniversary, Brian took me to Edmonds on Saturday. It's truly one of our favorite places to be. We took the Edmonds ferry over to Kingston and walked around their farmers market.
It was disappointing that the sun wasn't out (it makes the water so pretty) - but we had a great ride! There were some beautiful flowers in bloom around the Kingston marina.
After the ferry ride we took a walk around downtown Edmonds. We've explored every shop at least a dozen times. We know every crevice by heart. But this Saturday, we were in Edmonds a bit later in the afternoon and we were finally able to check out Daphne's. A very cute and tiny little wine bar - there are 4 barstools and two tiny window tables looking out onto the main stree of Edmonds - one of the tables (pictured above) can be reserved for a 90-minute slot.

Every time we hit the streets of Edmonds, we experience something new. We really loved Daphne's and I hope we get to come back again soon.


It was a wonderful day and a great way to celebrate 5 years.

Brian's Day

Brian and I have been riding the emotional roller coaster that is family elder-care. In need of a break.....I took Brian on a little Saturday adventure to all our favorite places.

We spent the afternoon in Edmonds one of Brian's favorite little get-aways. We sipped on some wonderful wines at Arista Wine Cellars and had a few nibbles of cheese at the Resident Cheesemonger. We even had time for a glass of wine at Olives Cafe and Wine Bar (boy, this place sure has changed).

In the evening, I cooked a bit plate of spaghetti and meatballs (Brian's favorite).

It was a nice distraction from the past few weeks and it was really wonderful to see a smile on his face all day!

Just a brief bullet point breakdown of the weekend including a few of my favorite things...

1. Getting not one but two trees decorated this holiday season. The Rebecca Lane tree and the Westridge tree.

2. Spending the afternoon in Edmonds, especially at Christmas time. Brian and I just love this little waterfront community. All the shops were decorated for the holidays and Brian and I even had a bit of Holiday Cheer at Olives Wine Bar and Scott's (I call it Scotty's).

Bastille Day - Saturday in Edmonds

Whenever our “spirits” get down, Brian and I always find a way to get up to Edmonds, Washington. Having missed our first Edmonds 4th of July in three years our “spirits” really needed a lift so on Saturday we headed up to Edmonds to see what’s new.

Brian and I wanted to start our trip off with breakfast at the Mountlake Terrace “Terrace Café”, but we were heartbroken when we discovered that it was closed. Instead, we drove right to Edmonds and had a wonderful breakfast at the Pancake Haus. For over 30 years, this place has been serving up the biggest variety of pancakes around. YUMMY!



We walked about 6 blocks down to the ferry terminal and took the Edmonds/Kingston ferry across the Puget Sound to the small town of Kingston (about a 30 minute crossing). They have a cute little Saturday Farmer’s Market right at the ferry terminal. We didn’t buy anything, but we always enjoy looking at the various arts/crafts and local food (a taste of fudge and a bite of smoked salmon). We had a microbrew at the Main Street Ale House before crossing back over to Edmonds.



Edmonds is a quaint little city right on the Puget Sound with views of the Olympic Mountains. Logger George Brackett founded Edmonds in 1890, naming the city after Vermont Senator, George Franklin Edmunds. Brackett discovered the city of Edmonds while paddling a canoe north of Seattle, searching for timber. When a gust of wind hit his canoe, Brackett beached in a location later called "Brackett's Landing".



We stopped by all of our favorite haunts. The Edmond’s Farmer’s Market has really grown and they had a lot of nice produce. Brian and I picked up a zucchini and a yellow squash for dinner along with a bunch of fresh basil. For Bastille Day, the Edmonds Resident Cheesemonger was serving up two wonderful French favorites, a goat cheese log and a wedge of Roquefort (of which I bought a bit). They have the best cheese in the northwest. We strolled down to the Edmonds Bookstore. I always enjoy supporting the small town bookstores of this country and Brian and I could hang here for hours. I think I picked out my next three reads!
We ended our Edmonds adventure at Aritsa Wine Cellars tasting….you guessed it, French Wines (Vive La France). I loved the sparkling wine, but can’t say I liked much of anything else we tasted (I think Brian liked the red from Bordeaux ). I guess I am just an oaky chardonnay kind of girl!
