7/52: A Nice and Long Weekend

Since Brian and I have seen each other a total of 5 hours this month, we really needed an adventure to Port Townsend, WA.

We enjoyed exploring historic Port Gamble (see barn below), walked main street Port Townsend and did some shopping, then had lunch at Silverwater Cafe before finally exploring Fort Warden (Point Wilson Lighthouse).

6/52: Valentine's Day Weekend/President's Day Weekend

We enjoyed a L O N G Valentine's/Presidents day weekend so Brian and I headed over to Port Townsend for the day last Saturday.

We always enjoy eating at The Silverwater Cafe in Port Townsend, which we discovered 8 or 9 years ago.  We introduced this cute little cafe to our friends, and they loved it so much that they were married on the beach in Port Townsend and had their wedding reception at the cafe!

I've never had a bad meal and last Saturday was no exception.  We had a lovely, romantic and decadent meal, at our favorite table including dessert with a port wine to finish it off.

We needed a walk after lunch so we window shopped up and down main street and took a trip out to Ft. Worden State Park before catching an afternoon ferry home.

Fortunately we had a beautiful day!  With highs near 60!

The Wedding

Sonja and Geoff were married on Saturday, August 25th on the beach at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, WA. It was a beautiful weekend and Brian and I were honored to be a part of it. It was only my second time as a Bridesmaid and Brian’s first time officiating a wedding!

We arrived in Port Townsend on Friday and the bridesmaid’s (Amy, Laura, Renee and I) all met up for a bridesmaid picnic (without the beach, but still fun).




In the afternoon, the wedding party met on the beach and in anticipation of Saturday’s wedding – ran through a quick rehearsal.

The first party was the rehearsal dinner at the Bishop Hotel – a beautiful white tent set up at the back of the hotel with a beach theme and wonderful food (appetizers of oysters, mussels and California rolls – main meal of capresse salad, halibut and cheesy pasta). The Bridesmaids took a couple of bottles of wine back to the Belmont Hotel and helped Sonja write her wedding vows and celebrate her last night of freedom.

Saturday was over-cast, but we made it through the wedding with no rain! It was a beautiful ceremony and Reverend Brian preformed the ceremony with heart-felt love and emotion.

The celebration continued at the Silverwater Café, a place very close to our hearts. Brian and I “loaned” it out to Sonja and Geoff as a wedding present. The Seymour’s designed their own wedding cocktail, a vodka – mango, coconut aperitif, served in flutes along side two different kinds of bruchetta, apricots stuffed with blue cheese and smoked salmon bilinis. The main meal of spinach salad, salmon, Greek pasta salad and chicken with mushrooms was out of this world.



We danced the night away and toasted to the happy reunion of two pretty special people!

More Weekend Pictures

I wanted to post another couple of pictures that were taken over the weekend that I really liked. The first one of Brian being his cute and funny self was taken in Port Angeles just "kitty corner" from the Silverwater Cafe.

The Haller Statue and Fountain, located at the base of the Taylor Street stairs, was ordered from a catalog in 1905. "Galatea" was recast by Riverdog Fine Arts Foundry in 1994 after one arm had been broken off. Originally cast by the J. L. Mott Foundry in New York, which made plumbing fixtures, the statue dates from 1875-1919. The artist is unknown. Galatea's sister statue, Venus Rising from the Sea at Kimberly Crest Gardens in Redlands, CA was remade from the original cast after being damaged.

The second picture was taken at the Point Wilson Lighthouse. Someone had created this little driftwood shelter and written "WELCOME" on a piece of wood. I thought it made a great postcard-like shot!

The Weekend-Saturday

Our Saturday journey to Port Townsend, WA was wonderful. A new route over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and north to Port Townsend through the Kitsap Peninsula, which lies in the heart of the Puget Sound. No ferry ride, which Brian and I both missed, but a wonderful partial backroads journey to a wonderful little town. It was also great that our good buddies, Sonja and Geoff took the ferry over from Seattle and met us for lunch at our favorite spot, the Silverwater Cafe followed by a stroll along the beach at Point Wilson Lighthouse (Fort Worden State Park where the lighthouse is located and the grounds, gun emplacements, and quarters were used in the filming of the movie "An Officer and a Gentleman").

Originally named 'Port Townshend' by Captain George Vancouver (for his friend the Marquis of Townshend) in 1792, Port Townsend was immediately recognized as a good, safe harbor, which it remains to this day. The official settlement of the city took place on the 24th of April, 1851 (coincidently...MY BIRTHDAY). Called the "City of Dreams" because of the early speculation that the city would be the largest harbor on the west coast, those dreams never really materialized. Aside from antique shopping, Port Townsend is noted for a vast collection of Victorian homes.
