Summer vacation was amazing this year and as always it kicks off with Brian's birthday (September 1st). We headed down to Lake Morton, perhaps for the last time this summer and had dinner with friends and watched the sun set fade across the water.
Sunday morning it was up bright and early for a surprise trip to Los Angeles (Brian was told the night before) and by early afternoon we were walking through the historic Venice Canals and down to the Venice Beach Boardwalk.
Monday it was down the coast to Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach and the picturesque Point Vicente Lighthouse before making our way north of downtown Los Angeles to Dodger Stadium.
We wrapped up vacation week with our final Seattle Mariner's game of the year and Brian's first foul ball EVER!

Birthdays are meant to be celebrated and I had an amazing long weekend in Seattle!
I arrived early on Friday night and found a beautiful bouquet of flowers waiting for me from my mother. In all honesty, shouldn't we really celebrate our mothers on our birthdays?
Saturday was a lazy day followed by "date night" and Birthday Eve with Brian enjoying dinner at the 74th Street Alehouse and then a wonderful concert sponsored by the Seattle Folklore Society featuring John Gorka. If you don't know his music, please check him out. He is a fabulous singer/songwriter and a very funny and entertaining performer.
My birthday was Sunday and it poured buckets of rain, but it didn't dampen my enthusiasm and we had a celebration at Mom and Kenny's followed by dinner at the Tin Room Bar in Burien, which I really enjoyed. It was a funky little pub with amazing food.
I took Monday off, relaxed with an amazing massage at the Seattle Wellness Center and weeded and re-planted by garden box for summer. It's hard to believe that the spring bulbs are bloomed and gone and we are planting flowers for the summer ahead and it's not even the end of April. It was so nice to spend a day off with Brian and get one more day of the birthday weekend for my spirit!

A fairly busy Spring weekend in West Seattle. I drove up to Seattle on Friday night and arrived early enough to spend some quality time with Brian and Sammy while Brian prepared a wonderful spaghetti dinner.
Saturday was a mixed bag with Brian participating in the Washington State Caucus in the morning and then we ran some errands in the afternoon but not before taking a walk along Alki Beach where we spotted a bald eagle happily sitting in a large tree at the water's edge.
Easter Sunday I headed back to Portland early to prepare a pork roast dinner and exchange Easter baskets with Chick. The Easter bunny spoiled us rotten again this year.

I am completely envious of all the school kids who get summers off. I long for day after day of lounging by the pool, long walks along the beach, star gazing after twilight, sleeping in until noon with nothing to do....no schedule to adhere too. This is why I plan at least one week in the summer to relive the summers of my youth!
So how did I spent my summer vacation you ask? These pictures don't do the 10 days justice!
I walked 6 out of 10 days and once completely alone while Brian worked. My goal was working out everyday, but I am still pleased that I got out as much as I did.
One of my vacation highlights was quality time at home with Brian and Sammy. Despite Brian working a few days, I had time to putter around the house with Sammy, plant fall flowers, enjoy an amazing massage at Chill, decorate the house for Brian's birthday and prepared a baked lasagna for dinner.
We celebrated Brian's 55th Birthday with a BBQ at my Mom and Kenny's and then on his actual birthday, we had an amazing meal at Cactus on Alki, then took a brief stroll along the beach (almost saying goodbye to Summer because the weather was so cool).
We took the ferry across Fauntleroy to Vashon Island and explored Point Robinson Lighthouse, then took the Talequah Ferry to Port Defiance and had lunch at Katie Downs. That was a fabulous day!
We treated my Mom to one of her birthday wishes with a ride on Seattle's Great Wheel, followed by juicy burgers at Red Robin. Thanks, Kenny for lunch!
Labor Day weekend we enjoyed a set with the Rusty Williams Band at the Easy Monkey Taphouse. They play great R&B and on Sunday we had brunch at Lake Morton and then grilled hot dogs at home.
I am back in Portland now, and am enjoying looking through all my photos and memories of my wonderful summer vacation.

It was a celebration weekend in Seattle!
Saturday was the induction into the Seattle Mariner's Hall of Fame for Jamie Moyer, who spent 25 years in the major leagues, 11 years with the Seattle Mariners.
Last year, Brian and I had the opportunity to see Lou Pinella's induction ceremony and Jamie's was just a unique and special with many former players and coaches in attendance.
Plus we all got an awesome bobblehead to add to our collection!
Kenny and Brian sat in our season tickets and Mom, Sandra and I had tickets just one section over...all seats in the Terrace Club, which is always a special treat!
On Sunday, we celebrated my Mom's 70th Birthday (August 6th) with presents and a special girl's brunch at Salty's on Alki. Hands down, probably one of the best brunch places in all of Seattle with an amazing selection of food. I ate my weight in fresh shucked oysters, peel and eat shrimp and crab legs!
Celebrations are fun, huh!?

We kicked off my Birthday Month with a little celebration at my Mom and Kenny's on Saturday.
There is nothing quite like being spoiled by your mother...and she sure didn't disappoint! Lots of presents...a paperback, a yummy smelling travel candle, Jergens Natural Glow (a must for the week before vacation), clothes and.....(drum roll please), diamond earrings! Ta-Dah! Spoiled Rotten!
After pre-dinner drinks and presents, we headed off for surprise birthday dinner (I had no idea where we were going) and we ended up down on the Seattle waterfront at the famous Crab Pot. What a treat! Thanks to Kenny for picking up the tab for dinner. Fabulous!
The Crab Pot is located right next to Seattle's Great Wheel. Which is always lit up at night and incredibly beautiful (I promised Mom for her next birthday we would go for a ride).
Mom, Kenny and I split the "Westport" which included steamer clams, mussels, shrimp, andouille sausage, corn on the cob, red potatoes and dungeness and snow crab legs. Think New England clam bake - Seattle style.
After dinner was coffee and this crazy lemon-white chocolate-meringue cake. OMG!!!
What a fantastic way to kick off my Birthday month!
