Saying goodbye to Tacoma

Brian and I spent our last weekend together in University Place, packing up our Tacoma life and looking forward to starting fresh in West Seattle. Brian begins the move on Wednesday with the official "big move" on Saturday.

Brian's not the least bit nostalgic about saying goodbye to Tacoma, but I am. There are quite a few places that I am really going to miss.

Here are a few memories.....

Foss Waterway, Chihuly Museum of Glass and the autumn afternoon I spent exploring downtown Tacoma while Brian worked.The Ale House.....pub trivia and great hamburgers.

Gig Harbor only 10 minutes away! Off-the-cuff trips to see the wine lady and grab lunch at the Tides, walk along the harbor and window shop.Chambers Bay.......

I know we will be closer to Alki and Greelake, but Chambers Bay is one great walk I will really miss.

Titlow Beach and the Beach Tavern......within walking distance to Westridge. A great place to grab an afternoon ale and hang out with some colorful locals.

Westridge sunsets......in the winter time from the back deck we could see the Puget Sound.

Goodbye to Tacoma and all its memories!

Chambers Bay: Home of the 2015 US Open

This past Sunday, Brian and I walked Chambers Bay (3 1/4 miles) for the first time since last fall and also the first time since the course was awarded the 2015 US Open.

It was a beautiful start to our Sunday and a great opportunity to snap some photos. This walk is also a great workout!

Chamber's Bay Walk #2

Sunday morning Brian and I walked Chamber’s Bay (Grandview and Soundview Trail - 3 1/4 miles) for the second time together. Whew! This walk really kicks my butt.


Located in the northern part of the Chambers Creek Properties, Soundview Trail connects to both ends of Grandview Trail making the two trails walkable as a loop. The trail winds from Cirque Plaza across the northern edge of the Chambers Creek Properties then descends through a portion of Chambers Bay golf course to the site of the future Central Meadow. Here the trail turns to take you back up the hill to meet with Grandview Trail.



What was different about Sunday’s walk was that it was the first time I have walked the loop since the Chamber’s Bay Golf Course opened in mid-June. It’s kind of scary thinking that you might get nailed in the head by a golf ball, but fortunately we didn’t hear anyone yelling “fore”. The course is beautiful and highly rated with this walking trail right through the heart of it - an amazing feat.



Despite it being humid and hazy, we finished with smiles on our faces!

Chambers Bay - Tacoma, WA

Happy Wednesday!


Over the weekend, Brian and I had an up close and personal walk through the new Chambers Bay golf course set to open on June 23rd. It's situated right on the Puget Sound about 2 miles from Brian's front door. I've been watching them construct the course for the past year as the train rolls right past the course.

They've incorporated this interesting black-top walking trail through the golf course - which I initially thought was the cart path, but come to find out they are not allowing golf carts (sorry Pop) - caddies only!

Brian and I walked from Grandview street down into the course to water level on a nice trail and then through the course and back up a 10% grade to Grandview. The entire walk took us about an hour (but Brian did it in 45 minutes, 2 days later - with a slight jog).

This course will be hard to play, especially on a windy day. Check it out!
